The Links at Ranch Colony
May 9, 2008
Pete Dye, the 82-year-old infamous golf course architect, has been inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame after decades in the profession. As the fifth person to be awarded such an honor, Dye joins other legendary architects Robert Trent Jones, C.B. Macdonald, Alister Mackenzie, and Donald Ross.
Dye grew up in Urbana, Ohio, a former amateur golfer and insurance salesman. A 1963 trip to Scotland’s old links, with its native roughs, small greens, and sharp-edged bunkers of varying sizes, inspired Dye to recreate similar designs in the US, eventually establishing him as one of the most sought-after US architects. Bill Coore and Tom Doak are some of the lucky few who were fortunate enough to apprentice under Dye.
Dye is currently working on a course at French Lick Resort, schedule to open to the public in 2009, as well as a fourth design at the Dominican Republic’s Casa de Campo.
The Links at Ranch Colony features the Dye Preserve course, designed by Pete Dye.
